My Buzz

It was a delight to be chosen the first time we did the #sbs on Twitter, to make it even better it was Katie's birthday, so it was a great treat. Being part of the #sbs community has introduced us to businesses that we are not sure we would have come across ourselves and we hope that our profile has increased as well. We are all for using UK local businesses for as many areas of our work as possible and the #sbs tag has meant it is easier for us to find new partners.

My Bio

We specialise in working with accommodation providers and restaurants, although our actual client list would tell a very diverse story, but the reason we specialise in the tourism sector is because Gavin has over 20 years hotel experience and can therefore see things from both a hoteliers point of view and from a search engine optimisation point of view. Gavin worked his way up through the hotel trade from barman through to hotel manager so again has seen every aspect of running a tourism business and appreciates that some times clean towels take priority over your website! Katie on the other hand has a background in social work and administration. This means that Katie has the ability to work with clients on a one to one basis making sure they fully understand the work we are carrying out and why we are doing what we are doing. Katie is passionate about customer service and this comes from years working with the general public, many of whom had disabilities, so keeping things clear and consise was always a priorty. Together Gavin and Katie make a great team, married for 7 years, working from home with 3 cats in the beautiful Scottish Highlands. The business is obviously an important part of our lives, but having a quality of life that only self employment can offer is also a highlight.

My Business Tips

Honesty really is the best policy. Don't use cheap tactics, don't run down your competition, always provide a good service and you will be rewarded ten times over with customer recommendations. Do explain things in detail but if the customer isnt interested make sure they have the information to hand for when they are interested. Be friendly but professional. Make sure your business doesn't take over your life completely, it is a big part of it but so are friends and family. Find that work/life balance and self employment will be a very rewarding experience. Oh and make sure you ask for help when you need it - there are lots of people willing to help you out with time or experience - use them!
