Having returned back to the family farm from working in London just under two years ago, I came up with the idea of online allotments. In practice, the allotments can also be bought through our farm shop or by phone; they make excellent gifts and all new clients receive a card. We trialled the idea last year and started a full launch of the product at the start of the year.
By logging on to i-Grow members can rent an allotment at Abbey Parks Farm, at the centre of the country’s most fertile crop-growing land here in Lincolnshire, and plant up to eight rows of vegetables per plot.
We believe the project is the first of its kind in the UK and aims to encourage more consumer participation in vegetable and herb farming, increasing self-sufficiency and sustainability.
