My Bio

Based in Bristol, the concept for Urbane Traveller was conceived in the Autumn of 2012.

Urbane Traveller was founded by Claire and Richard Barrell. We are two experienced business consultants who loved to travel so much that when we got married we decided to go on a twelve month round the world honeymoon.

The idea for Urbane Traveller was borne out of a certain amount of frustration because we could not find what we considered to be ‘stylish’ travel clothing and accessories for our trip.

We found all too often the technical travel clothing was not as ‘stylish’ as we hoped and travel accessories did not work as well as they were supposed to (or were not as essential as we first thought).

As a result, Urbane Traveller was established in 2013 from our desire for style, performance and comfort whilst travelling. We believe that design and function are not mutually exclusive and are of equal importance to the modern-day traveller.

The Urbane Traveller mission is to source beautifully made & stylish accessories and fashionable travel clothing from like-minded brands who share the same ethos, bringing these products together under a premium and stylish online emporium. We spend the time finding these beautiful and essential products so you can spend more time enjoying your trip.

My Business Tips

Good brands treat people well
Be prepared to change and evolve, but remember the reasons why you set-up the business in the first place
Talk to customers, family, friends and contacts - we don't have the monopoly on good ideas
Take and make opportunities to interact with people you wouldn't ordinarily meet - this can lead to some exciting opportunities (remember to polish your elavator pitch!)
Stay on top of Social Media and Google - Traffic and good online content is key to conversions
Don't be disheartened by your failures or feedback - these are signs that you are trying hard and opportunities to learn & evolve
Running your own business is hard work & a challenge - make sure you are doing it for the right reasons
