2021 was another tough year for all small business owners and charities alike. You either sink or you swim. This week, on June 22nd, The DM Lab will celebrated its 12th birthday. That alone gives us reason to not give up despite everything that has been thrown at us the past 24 months or so. We try to remain as positive as we can.
We’re pleased to have been able to support and inspire those around us – that’s why this year we’re doing all we can to give back to those that have unconditionally supported us through the toughest of times. We thought we’d put our hobbies to good use and raise a few quid for some amazing local charities!
Virtual Route 66 Challenge
To help us train for both the ultramarathons and the London Marathon, we signed up to take part in a virtual run / bike / walk across Route 66. 2278 miles in total – which we are aiming to complete by the end of 2022. To break this down, it’s basically a 10k a day – 6.24 miles to be precise! This is all the motivation we need to keep going.
Right now, we are over halfway through the challenge – which isn’t bad as we’re just about halfway through the year!
We’ve also been keeping things interesting by taking part in a number of smaller events that help keep us moving and clocking up the miles! These include the Hereford 10k, the Hereford 10 mile Race, St Michael’s Hospice’s Big Spring Walk, The Leominster Runners 5k on Good Friday and the virtual Vitality 10k. The ultramarathons are great events to take big chunks out of this 2278 mile total too! We just have to keep moving in 2022!
London Marathon 2022
In case you didn’t already know, in the summer of 2019, Debbie and the team at the National Autistic Society Herefordshire branch gave us the opportunity to take part in the 2020 London Marathon. However, 2020 when a bit to pot as you’ll know! We ended up taking part in the Virtual London Marathon in 2020 instead – an event so big we even made it into the Guinness Book of Records for taking part! We then lost out on a place in 2021 due to numbers and the rolling over of places so the 2022 event was in our crosshairs. We’ve been training for the London Marathon since the summer of 2019 – almost 3 years!
