In a sweet collaboration of culinary talent and charitable spirit, Laura from Levoco Chocolates joined forces with chefs from across the UK for a 24-hour Macaron Bake Off. Held at Edible Art Patisserie in Cheltenham on Monday, February 26th, the event was spearheaded by renowned pastry chef Damien Wager, founder of Edible Art Patisserie.
Initiated in 2023, the Macaron Bake Off serves as a fundraiser for food banks, a cause deeply personal to Damien. Reflecting on his upbringing, Damien revealed that as a teenager, his family found themselves homeless, relying on food banks for sustenance. Driven by his own experiences, Damien established the Bake Off as a means to give back to the community and support those in need.
For Laura, a newcomer to the art of macaron-making, the event presented a unique opportunity to collaborate with seasoned chefs. Despite her lack of experience with macarons, Laura eagerly embraced the challenge, fueled by the prospect of working alongside culinary talents.
The Bake Off garnered significant support from local businesses, with a hotel, coffee shop, and bar generously providing refreshments and accommodation for the participating chefs who traveled from various corners of the country.
The camaraderie among chefs, coupled with the shared mission of supporting food banks, infused the atmosphere with warmth and purpose throughout the 24-hour event. As spatulas clinked against mixing bowls and ovens hummed with activity, the aroma of freshly baked macarons filled the air, symbolizing not only culinary creativity but also a collective commitment to making a difference in the community.
All Macarons baked are available to purchase, with all the proceeds adding to the total raised for food banks. Packaging for the boxes were even generously donated. There is still time if anyone would like to donate to this amazing cause; https://www.gofundme.com/f/macaron-bakeoff-for-food-banks?member=30741549&sharetype=teams&utm_campaign=p_na+share-sheet&utm_medium=copy_link&utm_source=customer
