My Buzz

So far we've seen an increase in Twitter followers & interaction. We are looking forward to networking with more businesses & seeing new faces pop into our basement bistro in Harrogate. We've also extended an invitation to Mr Theo Paphitis to join us in our restaurant the next time he visits his Rymans store in Harrogate. We hope he likes steak!

My Bio

We are very pleased to re-introduce ‘The Tannin Level’. This was a business we looked at some 10 years ago when we thought the opportunity was there to turn this into a brilliant restaurant.

We feel that it is now blossoming into its full potential. Some 30 years ago, this was one of Harrogate’s premier restaurants and we hope that we have now gone some way to restoring its former glory.

Comments are regularly heard from guests that this is the first time that they have been back in The Tannin Level for many years, in some cases over ten and they are delighted to be back. The extended restaurant area to the rear of the Tannin Level has given it a depth and warmth of character, sadly lacking in more modern eateries.

The restaurant is open daily, 7 days a week, for lunch and dinner. Reservations are highly recommended.

My Business Tips

The Gill family have been involved in the licensed trade now for some 40 years, since Barbara and Ian Gill were actively involved in this business with her parents, who operated three pubs in County Durham. Although semi-retired they offer guidance and assistance to their son Alex who is involved in the development of the family group of businesses, together with his sister Victoria, who manages the Tiger Inn and is also spending part of her time on the accounts, which are just as important as getting the food and atmosphere right. Alex’s daughter Madeleine is now (at 7 year’s old) being prepared to carry on the family tradition.

Our executive chef, Dean Sowden, began his passion for cooking began in the small kitchen at ‘Millers’ in Harrogate at the tender age of 16, under the watchful eye of well known Michelin Starred Yorkshire Chef, Simon Gueller. Dean picked up many accolades along the way including ‘Young Chef of the Year’, ‘Risotto chef of the Year’ as well as a number of Rosettes. He continued to develop his passion for cooking in many well established restaurants throughout Yorkshire, including Rascasse in Leeds, Harvey Nichols in Leeds, Manrai & Babylon in Leeds, Olivers 24 in Harrogate – to name but a few. In recent times Dean has been kept busy with the newest addition to the family – ‘Deanos Graze & Grill’ in which he and his wife Sarah Jane have partnered with the Gill Family.
