My Buzz

Winning #SBS has given us a great opportunity to meet like minded small business owners and has emphasised for us the importance of social networking and the power of 140 Twitter characters! As we are a niche business, it has also been great to use the business as a tool to raise awareness of type 1 diabetes too.

The highlight so far has without a doubt been the event at Edgbaston, an inspirational day which we have learnt so much from.

My Bio

Funky Pumpers Ltd was founded in January 2011 by Sabrina Dawe and inspired by her son being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2008, when he was a baby.

Sabrina's son was placed on an insulin pump (a small device the size of a pager worn 24 hours a day). He needed a waist pouch to keep the pump in securely. At the time, such waist pouches were not available in the UK and consumers in the UK and Europe were having to purchase from the States.

Sabrina was the first person in the UK to set up a company specialising in insulin pump pouches as she wanted to give UK customers the choice of buying in the UK rather than abroad. The aim of the product was also to create designs which are bright, fun and funky to make having to wear pump less scary for children, hence the name "Funky Pumpers"!

The company has grown rapidly in a small amount of time, has a loyal base of customers worldwide and now stocks many other diabetes related products too.
