Zubee is the founder of Access My Events, which was founded in September 2018. She has worked in the field of disability and equality for many years with a varied career, having worked and volunteered for a number of organisations doing various different roles in the public, private and voluntary sectors, including working on events, but like many disabled people, Zubee found it hard to find a job in the events industry so starting her own business is the ideal way to work in a sector that she is passionate about.
When Zubee first started out a few years ago she tried to get support from different organisations and at the time was given hope that her idea was good but, in the end, she didn’t get the right support and guidance in order to enable her to get to where she wanted to be so she left it for sometime thinking business wasn’t for her. Eventually, she decided that she was going to try and do it on her own and get advice from my connections along the way. It's been a dream and a long-term goal that Zubee has wanted to achieve for a very long time and it's finally come to life, something she never thought would happen due to the challenges and setbacks Zubee has had in getting her business off the ground.
Zubee says "I wouldn’t have been able to do this business without the support and guidance of my wonderful friend and mentor, Rehan, and some great organisations, all of whom have played a key part in supporting me on this journey, which I'm so grateful for. Without them, I wouldn’t have been able to get to this stage.
She has organised and supported a number of organisations with their events. One of her most memorable events she organised was the first groundbreaking fashion show, called Fashion with Passion, which featured disabled and non-disabled designers and models. Zubee wanted to do the show to raise awareness of disability in the fashion industry and to raise money for Action on Disability. The show raised over £2,000, and received local, national and international press coverage, with an article appearing in British Vogue magazine. As a business owner, it's helpful to have a mentor from the beginning to guide and help you through the ups and downs. Try and find someone who has a few years of experience running a business in your area and therefore knowledge of the industry. It’s also good to do your own research before taking a mentor on board.
