Winning #SBS has given me lots of new followers and retweets as well as new sign ups to my newsletter. It's created a buzz amongst my local networking groups too. Having my photography course get all that attention is a great start to the year. Thank you so much.
I fell in love with photography as a child but my parents encouraged me to get a "proper job" so I spent over 20 years in the IT industry, working my way up from a trainee to a senior management role. When it came to moving job again, I decided to follow my heart and walk away from corporate life to setup my own photography business.
Several years later, I'm now an award-winning photographer and filmmaker using my documentary, portrait and fine art photography skills to create images and films for a variety of companies from sole traders to large corporates.
I also use my training skills to teach people photography. In 2014, I developed the "Photography for Busy Business People" workshop, aimed at those businesses who need to take photos for their blogs and social media but either haven't got the budget to get a professional photographer in regularly or who make bespoke pieces that need photographing before they get delivered to clients. I got great feedback from the participants so now I'm converting it into an online workshop to allow more business people to benefit.
- Don't think that you have to do things in a certain way just because your competitors do - follow your instincts to do what's right for you and your business.
- Take a few minutes at the end of each day to reflect on what's happened in your business, good and bad. Then work out how you can capitalise on the good things or change the things that didn't work to make tomorrow even better.
