Did you know that the benefits to children growing up around original art are AMAZING?!
When I first founded Mouse & Meg, and thought about the style of prints I wanted to create, I did a lot of research into the positive effects that displaying art in a child's bedroom can have on them. I knew that it was likely to be positive but had no idea just how much it can play a part in their development!
By talking about a piece of art, discussing themes and colour choices, it can improve critical thinking and promote cognitive ability, as well improving a child's vocabulary and language skills. Expressing their thoughts and feelings about a picture can evoke emotions and teach empathy. It can spark their imaginations and inspire their own creativity. And thanks to nurturing all these skills, it has been found that children who learn about art go on to have an increased eagerness for learning which in turns means that they perform better academically across all subjects! Furthermore, by creating a welcoming and visually stimulating environment for your little one's, this promotes happiness and overall well being.
This is why I have made it my mission as an artist, to create wall art for children, entirely from my own original artwork, (no clip art or AI here) that doesn't just look good, but also inspires all these amazing benefits too!
Whimsical, fun and friendly, each design is created from the heart, a little labour love, and I really hope that shines through in every one!
It was when I accompanied my husband on a business trip in 2021, I found the time to do some sketching.
I have always loved to paint and draw, but as a busy mum to two children and three step children, I very rarely found the time. As little characters came to life on the page, I started to wonder if I could sell personalised paintings for babies and children. I had previously worked in interior design, and child care so it seemed like the perfect fit to combine my experiences in both.
My idea didn't go according to plan though as I discovered just how much of a perfectionist I am, and each order was taking me days to get to a standard I was happy with! It clearly wasn't going to work out, but by this point, I had totally fallen head over heels in love with being creative again!
So I literally went back to the drawing board. I taught myself how to use the app Procreate and learned to draw digitally. This meant that each of my drawings I could perfect just the once and then print them to order.
So I had a total rebrand and in 2023, launched my first collection of children's prints. And so Mouse & Meg was born! My small business is named after my son Tom who I nicknamed Mouse when he was a baby, and my daughter Megan Rose.
When I am not working I love to cook and bake, read, travel, go to the theatre, and of course, draw and paint! These days everything I do, everywhere I go, I see as an opportunity to find inspiration for my artwork!
Thank you so much for taking the time to read all about me and my small business.
