Running a business is not a simple task. It involves a series of small and big decisions that eventually determine the success or failure of it all. While many factors contribute to this success, there are some fundamental principles that every entrepreneur should follow. Below are my top five tips for success, gleaned from personal experience.
1. Share Your Knowledge; Don't Hoard It.
Keeping certain secrets is all part of business, but remember to lend a hand when required. Today it's them, tomorrow it might be you.
2. Strive for Better, Not Just Bare Minimum.
"Done beats perfect" is a tempting mantra, but remember to strike the right balance. By merely 'making do', you'll end up fixing yesterday's mediocre work. That's bad for your branding or anything for that matter.
3. Authenticity Wins.
Keeping up a façade while running a business is too demanding. Save your energy, be yourself, and let your true personality interest the correct crowd.
4. Quality Over Quantity. Always.
Don't get lost in increasing your social media followers. 10 engaged followers beat 10,000 indifferent ones any day. So, avoid those 'like ladders' and meaningless networking shenanigans.
5. Embrace Outsourcing.
