My Bio

Centenary Lounge is a stunning recreation of a 1930s Art Deco bistro, inspired by the refreshment rooms of the Great Western Railway. The décor tastefully recaptures the Period Railway Buffet at its very best. The business was founded by myself in 2009.
We are proud to have won many accolades including being shortlisted for a National Railway Heritage Award together with a B.A Award from “Business Today”.

A little about me - I have been in business for over 29 years. I bought our first business when I was 21 years old and had 3 month old twins. For the first 10 years of my business life I kept things simple as my husband and I were raising our three children. We then bought our first newsagent in a railway station 18 years ago and realised there was a niche in the market for a quality establishment and hence Centenary Lounge was born. Food and drink has always been a great passion of mine so providing high quality freshly prepared food and drink in sumptuous Art Deco surroundings is the unique selling point of the business.

Since the opening in 2009, Centenary Lounge has become very well established and for many is now a destination of choice. Building on it's success a take away outlet with the same brand concept was opened in Birmingham Snow Hill Station in 2012. The First Class Lounge was opened in Worcester in April 2009.

Now a little about Centenary Lounge.

Centenary Lounge is an award-winning, unique collection of cafe-tearooms and vendors located across the heart of Birmingham and Worcester. Centenary Lounge attracts thousands of customers from all over the country. It’s friendly staff have been passionate about providing outstanding quality food and traditional customer service in beautiful, nostalgic Art Deco-inspired settings that recapture all the glamour and style of the 1930s railways; the golden age of travel. Our desire to share this enthusiasm with our guests has been a catalyst in establishing our reputation as an exciting and vibrant refreshment destination.

Complementing the Art Deco surroundings and location in the heritage Moor Street Station we have also created - Recreations, our range of replica GWR branded 1930s gift ware reminiscent of the days of Great Western Railway's luxurious dining facilities. The products, like everything about Centenary Lounge are produced with absolute attention to detail and have been manufactured in conjunction with NMSI and the National Railway Museum. So much so that they have been endorsed by the famous enthusiast and collector Sir William McAlpine.

My Business Tips

Believe in yourself and your idea but always do your homework.

You have to be passionate about what you do. Live and breathe it - this will ultimately lead you to success.
Be your own worst critic. Only sell what you would buy yourself as a customer.
